Gül Hürgel on Vogue and on the best magazines of the world
All about the woman behind the summer dresses that you’ve been seeing all over Instagram
Gül Hürgel on her start in fashion.
Calling on her love of the Mediterranean lifestyle, Turkish designer Gül Hürgel’s designs have gained traction, worn by fashion identities such as Kate Foley, Pandora Sykes and Candice Lake as well as by British actress Gemma Arterton.
“Being based in Turkey, my lifestyle is reflected in my predominant use of light linen fabrics in my collection,” explains the designer, herself a perfect model for her designs (see her Instagram for more inspiration).
After studying at Parsons in Paris and New York, she started her label after the urging of family and friends. Now stocked at Net-A-Porter, Moda Operandi, Matchesfashion.com, The Webster in Miami and Pam Pam Swim in Sydney, her signature pieces include the off shoulder Bell dress, and the Rita shirtdress.
What is of note though is her below-the-knee lengths; something of an anomaly in most holiday wardrobes filled with shorter skirt lengths and even briefer shorts. For Hürgel, it’s to concentrate on a “timeless elegance,” she says. “My pieces are sunny and feminine… and in harmony with our contemporary lives as women.”
